When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Ireland in March, we were feeling very sad and disconnected from humans especially the literature loving types!
Every book reading, book festival and lit festival were cancelled.
We wanted to bring lovers of literature together online using Facebook Live, YouTube Live or any other online streaming medium. The Holding Cell was the space to host one’s very own reading.
It has been a brilliant project and we have thoroughly enjoyed watching all of our writers go live in their homes during the pandemic. But as life is going to be less restrictive, slowly, bit by bit, our lives have also become freer.
We never imagined that the Holding Cell would last for 8 weeks purely because we never imagined that the pandemic would last for 8 weeks! We are in strange times but we could not be prouder or more grateful for all of our readers who have given us their time, energy and spoken words in these strange times. Thank you also to the watchers, the listeners, the sharers, the retweeters that helped get our readers’ work out there.
We hope that the idea of going live in your home might be easier now!
All the best,
Simon and Rozz
